The Way Little Kids Move Their Bodies...

We were sitting in synagogue this morning, after services. We were sitting on a little couch that faces the main door to the building. There were about 10 little kids (oldest would be about 1st grade, I think... youngest was about 3-1/2).

Anyway, it really struck me how differently adults and kids move their bodies.

One of the most prominent differences is how much they bounce up and down as they walk or run. Kids have bounces and even swaggers and swivels in places that adults just don't have.

Some of it, I'm sure, is that kids are differently proportioned that most adults. Definitely, differently proportioned adults move in different ways, too.

Some of it, I'm sure, is that kids just don't have the same comfort with their motor control as most adults have. Definitely, adults who have started to lose some of their motor control exhibit some of these extra bounces and swivels.

Some of it, I'm sure, is that kids just haven't yet been squirshed (read: repressed) into moving like adults move. Definitely, adults who are exceptionally rebellious or free-spirited move differently than other adults.

But, I wonder what sorts of proportions are involved and what other factors their are....
